Year THREE log as follows:

27,000 miles: Incredible! Gas prices soar just as my truck finally starts getting decent mileage - thank the maker! On a highway trip withOUT the boat in tow I managed an amazing (to me) 16.7 MPG, but even that average includes some city driving as I did not refuel immediately after the trip. Then somehow I had two towing trips with an incredible average of 14.5 MPG by simply slowing down to 65 MPH vs 70 MPH. Maybe just slowing down 5 MPH is the key to getting 2 more miles per each gallon while towing. My overall mileage for 2004 is around 13.1 which is up .32 MPG from my combined average in '02 & '03. Maybe the truck is finally getting broken in completely? In a mixed driving situation (some highway towing, some not towing) I got an unheard of 303.8 miles out of tank before refueling. I'm just shocked at how all of sudden the mileage has gone up, now granted this occurred during the months of Jan-April when the A/C was not needed so we'll see what happens this summer as the A/C will be on all the time again. Looks like I'll need some new windshield wipers soon, the original ones are starting to steak and chatter across the glass.

*Mileage Notes: I drive 7 miles to work 3 days a week (great job huh?). Thus I drive 14 miles a day under "city" conditions (or 42 miles a week). My commute consists of the standard suburban stop-n-go, traffic light every few blocks, type driving. Average speed is 20MPH, with the speed limit being 35-45 MPH on the roads I take, but with a 15MPH school zone throw in. However, 90% of my driving is on the highway while towing a 16 foot flats skiff (a kind of shallow water fishing boat) that weighs an estimated 1,500lbs. While towing I set the cruise control to 70MPH and that pulls around 2,400 RPM on the engine in OverDrive. I tow about 2 twice a week on average and normally go about 100 miles each way. So that gives me 400 miles a week of this type of driving! Because I live in South Florida all driving is on flat roads (no hills, just highway overpasses) but with the A/C on MAX in attempt to beat the heat. For reference I try to fill up as soon as the low fuel warning light comes on. This occurs when a 1/8 tank is remaining or around 4 gallons left out of the 24 gallon tank. My average gallons used for fill-up confirms this.
